One of my favourite vegetables, the leek, is in season right now. It’s sweet, flavoursome and very versatile, so I wanted to celebrate it this month. Scott and I have also put some eggs and cheese in the bag so I’m sure you’ll have plenty of ideas for dishes.
In the bag:
Leeks
Eggs
Cheese
And don’t forget to check out February’s round-up over at Real Epicurean.
Make a dish using the ingredients and blog about it then send an email with βIn the Bag in the subject line to asliceofcherrypie AT yahoo DOT co DOT uk by Sunday 5th April with the following information:
-
your name
-
a link to your post
-
a picture of your dish
Rules
Here are the loose rules – but ultimately remember the objective is to have fun whilst highlighting seasonal food:
1. Participants should attempt to use all the ingredients ‘in the bag’ for that particular month, but may leave one out if they prefer.
2. Participants can include any extra ingredients that they see fit.
3. Entries should include a link back to the host for that month, and the post should be tagged “In the Bag”.
4. Entries can be written any time during the month, as long as the URL is emailed to that month’s host before the closing date.
5. Particpants from outside of the UK are most welcome to join in and substitute an item from their own local seasonal produce if necessary.
‘In The Bag’ is a food event run monthly by ‘A Slice of Cherry Pie’ and ‘Real Epicurean’.
my first thought is quiche, but that may just be because they serve it EVERYWHERE in Montreal.
Sounds like fun! I’m in!
I think I’m going to have to give this one a go!
But don’t hold me to it… if it all goes wrong it’ll never see the light of day!
Great selection! I have enough trouble getting a recipe in, in time for my own round-up, but I am going into the kitchen to write it on the calendar. I will try, promise.
There are so many ideas in my head! I’ll probably do a few and end up submitting the best one. Hmmm…lets see who will be my guinea pigs?!!!!
I’ll post this weekend. Waiting till the last minute always lets me down π
Oh, I just cooked with leeks at school (I’m a culinary school student) this morning. I sauteed them and used them in a wonderful chicken stuffing. And you are right, they added this lovely hint of sweetness that was just right.
Cheers!
I love leeks so I’ll have a think and maybe I’ll enter this month.
I blogged my favorite leek dish last week – http://purelyfood.blogspot.com/2009/03/pasta-with-slow-braised-leeks.html
I’m wishing I had waited now and posted it with home made fresh pasta (which I do half the time I make it) but I guess I should get creative and think of something different.
I’m not for sure if I have ever had leeks…..ummm I may have to get them a try!
I am in. By the way, new contest involving PEEPS on my blog also open until April 5th so take a peek.
